The Academic Skills Tutor

(c) The Academic Skills Tutor 2020

Welcome to ‘The Academic Skills Tutor’!

Welcome to my set of resources on all things study-related. This set of resources will cover academic skills from reading, writing, reports, plagiarism and paraphrasing, time management, and a few more. The idea of this blog is that rather than just deliver things to read, I’ll give you some exercises you can try at home, to help you develop your skills independently. These resources I’m putting together are primarily aimed at undergraduate students, but most are likely to be suitable for those at A’ Level or equivalent as well.

Update: During 2021/22 I will be re-sharing existing materials and adding to this set of resources when I have time. Please follow me on Twitter or Facebook for updates.

Note for educators: feel free to direct your students to this site if you feel it would help them, but please do not just take the materials for use in your classes. Thank you.

End of term: make sure you get some rest.

It’s been another term, and while I’ve not managed to produce as many blogs as I might like, my apologies for that, it’s been an incredibly busy term for me. What is Academic Misconduct, and what are the mistakes students make?

OK, so it’s time to get a bit more serious. We’ll come back to the posts about academic writing in a couple of weeks, but first I want to cover one of the biggest problem areas in academia – academic misconduct. This includes, but isn’t limited to, plagiarism, something many undergraduates live either in fear…

Here is a link to another blog site I write regularly for: The University of Sunderland School of Psychology Blog. There are some really interesting articles from academics in Psychology, with expertise in a whole range of subjects.
